When I heard of this assignment, I immediately thought about my house. I've never moved and it's where my whole life has been, essentially. Each of these photos represent special moments or things in my life that remind me of home. The smell of a candle, an empty hall that used to be filled with four screaming children (now down to one), countless family photos, small jokes that we have laying around the house, and of course our amazing pets who help keep me company without all the mayhem that I'm used to. Where I live we're always busy, my mom works day in day out to make us all happy and we are so very thankful for her hard work. Theres also toys lying around from our new little trouble maker puppy, and our home cooked meals are never anything less than amazing. Where I live is not only a house, its my home.
Personally, I had so much fun doing this assignment. As a photographer I love playing with angles to make something seem larger than it appears, like the background of these photos (the house and the forest). Also, working with one subject (the human) was very interesting because I could play with the rule of thirds and the position of how close and how far they are from the large object. All in all, this project was super fun and I can't wait to use what I've learned from this soon!
For this term I decided to chose a photo I took a while back of my fireplace in Whistler. I love this photo so much because I am a huge fan of a photo with shallow depth of field and one certain thing in focus. I also love this photo because the flames make it more interesting and remind me of winter which is one of my favourite seasons.
To be honest, this assignment was the most difficult one that I have encountered thus far. Firstly, I was using my iPhone instead of my camera because it was dead and therefore the subject would barely focus. Also, I was using my new puppy as my moving subject which in heinz sight wasn't necessarily a good idea as she was feeling very rambunctious. I did, however, learn a lot about how important settings on a camera can be and I know that I can improve from the photos I have above.
